I grew up on a farm in South Africa and discovered my passion for rugby at an early age. Despite a brief hiatus due to injury and getting my provincial colours in volleyball competing on the national stage in South Africa, I returned to the sport and found myself coaching a U/14 team at Bersig academy. This experience reignited my love for the game, this time from the perspective of mentoring young talents. Transitioning from player to coach, I dedicated himself to honing my coaching skills.
My journey led me to the helm of provincial youth teams, where my aptitude for developing players became evident. Following this success, I seized the opportunity to coach at the highest echelons of Dutch rugby starting with the Oysters where I have been coaching the past 5 years. I am privileged to have served as a coach for the national U/18 team in 2022 and currently the National U/17 team. My coaching philosophy centers around continuous self-improvement, striving to be a high-performance coach. Committed to fostering excellence, I embrace rugby as the ultimate team sport, emphasising the interconnectedness of individuals, teams, and the sport itself.
“Rugby is the ultimate team sport. No individual is bigger than the team, and no team is bigger than the sport. It is an amazing game to be part of.”
I look forward to the next chapter in my coaching journey with RC ‘t Gooi, an amazing club with rich traditions and a positive culture.
Sander van der Loos
Sander van der Loos, 45 years old, married to Rolien, 3 kids (11, 13, 15). Lived in Amsterdam for the last 25 years but moved to Hilversum earlier this year. I come from a rugby crazy family. My father and four of his four brothers played for The Netherlands in the 70s and 80s. Started playing rugby from a young age at HRC. Played mainly at flyhalf. Was part of the 1st team of HRC for 12 years, 3 times champion and 7 times runner-up… Tore my ACL at 31 which pretty much ended my playing career as I was also busy with family life and focusing on career, running my own company in Trading. I went into coaching when my kids started playing at Amstelveen. I trained and coached them in the U12’s and U14’s. Enjoyed it a lot so did a lot of courses and over the last few years got involved in the NL youth selections U17 and U18 and the Dutch Barbarians. Since this year I am also on the coaching staff for the Dames XV. Specialized in attack and backline coaching.
Very much looking forward to joining RC ‘t Gooi coachingstaff. It looks like a very promising group of players and coaches and it will be a privilege to work with everyone towards a great new season.
As discussed with the Board of ‘t Gooi, I will be busy with the Dames XV until half October, but I will be doing my best to be there when I can and help the team where I can until then. After that I will have full commitment towards ‘t Gooi.
